Matter before gesture
Le Tour du Moulin hosts ceramicists in residence for twelve-week sessions, in cohorts of two to three residents. Three sessions a year — spring, summer, autumn.
The curatorial line fits in one sentence: matter before gesture. Each resident works from the site's own resources — river clay, kiln ash, local wood — rather than imported materials. Firing is wood-fuelled, in reduction, over a 36-hour cycle shared by the whole cohort.
The name plays on a deliberate double meaning: the potter's wheel (tour) and the mill's turning (tour du moulin) — the wheel that keeps turning, the matter that comes back on itself from one firing to the next.
